The Project
|
Danza de Papel is an interactive sculpture that reimagines the traditional Oaxacan Mojiganga through the lens of modern technology. Traditionally featured in cultural festivals and weddings, Mojigangas are large, handcrafted paper mache figures brought to life by human dancers. This project blends that cultural heritage with tools like Arduino to explore how traditions can be preserved and reinterpreted through a technological lens. The sculpture performs pre-programmed dance sequences triggered by a line following path, inviting viewers to reflect on what is lost, gained, or transformed when something deeply human becomes digitized
Does movement still have meaning when it’s pre-programmed? What does it mean to preserve culture through machines? Can a machine carry meaning, or is meaning only present when a human performs it? |
